so yeah- i hear that you arent letting people battle b/c supposed crew or girlfriend/ boyfriend connections- well- check your history of who is affilited with who before you ban certain people from participating-
If you actually knew anything about the Detroit or Midwest scene, you would realize that you have people judging who are in the same crew as some who are battling- - may be the popping or bboying battle- if you knew about the scene- you would have already seen what i am referring to.
ALSO:
how you gonna let someone who has been an organizer of the event, and part of your supposed element 1 crew, in the popping battle-
couldnt there be some possible bias there too b/c he was part of organizing the event- Hypocritical if you ask me
too bad you are all ignorant of the REAL scene and have no idea what goes on outside of Ann Arbor

well i know they are not letting you battle to try and make things fair.. but i'm gonna have to agree with u... by not letting u battle that is definitely not fair.. at least to me its not. there are so many major and minor affiliations with judges and participants its truly impossible to cut all of those affiliations off.. they need to let anyone who wants to battle in and trust in the judges that they chose to be as fair as possible.

Not only that, but did anyone even think about the fact that Calvin, who we all know is part of Middle School, is judging the b-boy battle....and isn't Middle School registered as one of the crews that are battling? Middle School Crew aka MSC on the MTA website.
Thats a bit curious. If MTA is gonna talk the talk, they NEED to walk the walk. Don't let someone not battle because of age old associations, and then turn around and let other closely associated crews/judges battle.
Thats wiggity wiggity wiggity WACK!

MTA's judging policy:
No crew affiliation between the judges and participants at the time of the event. This means that if the crew is officially dead, the participant may battle. MTA allows all other types of affiliation such as brothers, girlfirends/boyfriends, etc. etc. I don't know where you got the disallowing of girlfriend/boyfriend connection from, because they do allow it.
If there are crew affiliations between the judges and the participants that they do not know about, please let element 1 know at mastertheart@umich.edu.
Allowing an Organizer Battle:
"how you gonna let someone who has been an organizer of the event, and part of your supposed element 1 crew, in the popping battle" -alterego
1. Element 1 is not a crew, it's a club which has had over 200 members. 2. If element 1 were a crew, there are still no element 1 judges.
Are there any Possible Changes?:
No crew affiliation between participant and the judges. There are no other policies. Therefore, there should be no further source of complications. This policy is set in stone for this event, but if you are unhappy with it, contact MTA and talk to them. The policy may be changed for next year's event.
Please Note:
MTA and Element 1 get no profit from this event. They spend months and months on planning the event for you guys. Please understand how much time, sweat work, discussion, and pain MTA staff goes through to bring everyone this event. Their goal is to create a fair, enjoyable event, to help educate the local and michigan communities about the are of b-boy/b-girl and popping. It's also to promote the artform throughout the state. If they DO make mistakes, don't kill them over it. Let them know, they will learn. Show some respect and some constructive feedback so that this event will mature into a fair "real" event in the following years.
Contact Me:
If it really bothers you that I am battling, please contact me (James Choi) at jamesjc@umich.edu or call my cell phone, which you already have. I decided to battle because I'm driving from NYC just to have fun. I at no means need to battle. Since I know who you are, I don't want any hard feelings and lets talk. If you don't want me to battle, I won't. I'll still have the time of my life at the event.

AND-
i know that Levell and Cryzko and all others that were associated with the supposed Public Access crew are not in a crew- YET they are still banning Levell b/c Cryzko is judging-
Who is to say that they are in a crew- if they arent saying it- then why is MTA organizers saying it and not letting people battle.
Like you said Loopz- if they are no longer in a crew or are not in a crew- then they should be able to battle_ so whats the problem

Alterego,
I don't think you understand. Organizing an event is VERY DIFFICULT. Information must travel through a couple people and gets stranded at moments. And some decisions have rippling effects, so quick decisions can't always be made and need to be thought out. Now, I'm not an official organizer and I have absolutely no power in making any decisions for MTA. But from what I last recall, Levell and Cryzko were part of the same crew. Now if they've officially disbanded the crew, yes, they should be able to battle according to MTA policy. But that's kinda iffy, you know? Information needs to travel into the right person (MTA Head) and he's probably already very busy. Hopefully Levell can battle, because I really think he's a good poppers and has a chance at winning. But policies are policies.
